Thaili, also known as Surkhe Thaili or Mehcha (in the Newari language), is a type of traditionally handcrafted purse. It is typically made of cotton cloth, but due to current trends and fashion, it is also available in a variety of other fabrics.
These little handbags or pouches are thought to have started off as a way to use up small scraps of cloth. Tailoring your garments rather than buying readymade ones was a long-standing Nepalese habit. As a result, the useless surplus linen was changed into small Thailis, which are still used to safeguard money, jewellery, and, notably, coins.
Thailis is famous for their Dhaka patterns, drawstrings, and two distinct portions.
